Troy Simpson co-founded Research One, an Australian company skilled in providing legal analysis, research, and writing services to lawyers worldwide.

At Research One, Troy researched and managed many of the company's major projects. He helped lawyers in preparing winning arguments for some landmark cases, including major constitutional cases.

Before Research One, Troy provided legal advice on government legislation (1997). He then joined the Australian National University as subeditor, contributor, and principal researcher for the Oxford Companion to the High Court of Australia (1998–2001). In 2001–2, Troy wrote online commentaries for a leading developer of computerized legal expert systems.
