Tip 14. Use “Autotext”

Say you have a regular client whose long name you find hard to spell and remember. Or say you regularly write about a legal maxim with a long Latin name. Rather than typing these words in full each time you use them, you can tell Word to automatically insert the word when you start typing just a few of the word’s first letters. Autotext tools can store and insert more than just words — it can store and insert clauses, sentences, disclaimers, almost anything you want — at your command.

Try it now:

  • Make sure you have Tips Worksheet 1 open.
  • Follow the instructions provided on the Worksheet to complete exercise 6.
  • If you use a different version of Word that requires different steps, then search Word’s Help section to find out how you can set Autotext to finish all those long names and words for you.
