Tip 3. Turn off graphics

If you have a slow Internet connection and you want your Web browser to run faster, try turning off graphics. The difference in speed with graphics turned off may surprise you.

Try it now:

If you use Internet Explorer on a Windows operating system, then:

  • Go to the Tools menu.
  • Select “Internet Options”.
  • Click the “Advanced” tab.
  • Unclick “Show pictures” under the “multimedia” category.
  • Click “OK”.

If you use Internet Explorer on a Macintosh operating system, then:

  • Go to the Explorer menu.
  • Select “Preferences”.
  • Select “Web Content” under “Web Browser”.
  • Unclick “Show Pictures” under the “Page Content Category”.
  • Click “OK”.

If you use Firefox on a Windows operating system, then:

  • Go to the Tools menu.
  • Select “Options”.
  • Click the “Content” tab.
  • Unclick “Load images automatically”.
  • Click “OK".

If you use Firefox on a Macintosh operating system, then:

  • Go to the Firefox menu.
  • Select “Preferences”.
  • Select the “Content” tab.
  • Unclick “Load pictures automatically”.
  • Close the Preferences window by clicking on the red button at the top left of the window.

If you use Safari, which is only available on Macintosh operating systems, then:

  • Go to the Safari menu.
  • Select “Preferences”.
  • Select the “Appearance” tab.
  • Unclick “Display images when the page opens”.
  • Close the Preferences window by clicking on the red button at the top left of the window.
